Several issues of The
Aeroplane Spotter dating from the Second World War have been donated to the
museum recently. The archive team has found it quite remarkable how often
vertical flight machines feature in magazines produced for the public
as early as 1942.
The magazines feature pictures and information on many
weird and wonderful rotorcraft from the period. Among the bizarre and rare
there remains information on a few of the old favourites in their infancy, an
example being this article regarding the legendary Sycamore when it first entered
service with British forces in 1947.
